Flash Player Ocx Control 90 Is Not Installed

I built a Windows Form application that used the Shockwave Flash COM component to play SWF files. This week, I switched to a new Windows 7 64-bit computer, installed Visual Studio, Installed Flash 11.9, and tried to bring my application over.

Download Flash9f.ocx for free and fix any missing OCX errors. Free, Safe and Secure.

Now however, even though Flash is installed, the Shockwave Flash COM component is not available. As a result, I am not only unable to add Flash objects to my form (following the instructions at ), but I cannot even compile my application due to the errors “The referenced component ‘AxShockwaveFlashObjects’ and ‘ShockwaveFlashObjects’ could not be found” and “Type ‘AxShockwaveFlashObjects.AxShockwaveFlash’ is not defined.” Reading around, I found out that on 64-bit OS, I may have to manually register Flash using the DllRegisterServer (see ).

I would be happy to manually register; however, I don’t see a.ocx file in any of the folders to which Flash 11.9 is installed even though it is installed properly. My folder options are set to show hidden files, and all I see in C: Windows System32 Macromed Flash are FlashInstall.log, FlashUtil64_11_9_900_117_Plugin.exe, NPSWF64_11_9_900_117.dll, and plugin.vch. The other place where I would think to look for the.ocx file is C: Windows SysWOW64 Macromed Flash. In that directory, I see FlashInstall.log, Flashplayer.xpt, flashPlayerPlugin_11_9_900_117.exe, FlashPlayerUpdateService.exe, FlashUtil32_11_9_900_117_Plugin.exe, NPSWF32_11_9_900_117.dll, and plugin.vch. Without a.ocx file, how to I deal with the fact that Shockwave Flash does not show up in Visual Studio’s COM components list?

Thank you for your time. First off, THANK YOU!

Adobe has several installers for Flash in Windows. 2 of them are: 1) Installer for Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, Opera (and other plugin-based browsers) 2) Installer for Internet Explorer (and other browsers that support Internet Explorer ActiveX controls and plug-ins) Because I use Firefox, I initially installed #1. As I said in my opening, I could not find any.ocx file, either in C: Windows SysWOW64 Macromed Flash or in C: Windows System32 Macromed Flash Thanks to your post, I decided to try the Internet Explorer ActiveX installer on top of the other flash version (ie without uninstalling #1). Specifically, I installed from this. The installation went fine, Flash works in Firefox (I have not tested IE), and now I have Flash64_11_9_900_117.ocx in C: Windows System32 Macromed Flash, and Flash32_11_9_900_117.ocx in C: Windows SysWOW64 Macromed Flash. There was no need to manually register the OCX file either. When I opened my VB project in visual studio, the compile errors I reported in my first post had disappeared.

The Flash control was not in the toolbox, but by on the 'Choose Toolbox Items' dialog (Right-click Toolbox & 'select Chose Items.' ), under the COM Components tab, I can once again see Shockwave Flash Object pointing to path C: Windows System32 Macromed Flash Flash32_11_9_900_117.ocx. So I have been able to add this object to the toolbox and drag it unto the Windows Form. I'm still not sure why the Flash installer for Firefox did not register the ActiveX Control (if you do, please share), but my problem seems to have been resolved. Thanks again MonkeyBoy PS. In COM references (Project -> Add References.), I cannot see the FlashBroker entry that you mentioned, but I have the FlashAccessibility entry that is also present in your screenshot and I have the Shockwave Flash entry I mentioned earlier.

Both FlashAccessibility and Shockwave Flash refer to C: Windows System32 Macromed Flash Flash32_11_9_900_117.ocx, and no listed COM reference refers to C: Windows System32 Macromed Flash Flash64_11_9_900_117.ocx even though the IE installer created that file.
