In German-occupied France, young Jewish refugee Shosanna Dreyfus witnesses the slaughter of her family by Colonel Hans Landa. Narrowly escaping with her life, she plots her revenge several years later when German war hero Fredrick Zoller takes a rapid interest in her and arranges an illustrious movie premiere at the theater she now runs. With the promise of every major Nazi officer in attendance, the event catches the attention of the 'Basterds', a group of Jewish-American guerrilla soldiers led by the ruthless Lt. As the relentless executioners advance and the conspiring young girl's plans are set in motion, their paths will cross for a fateful evening that will shake the very annals of history. Quotes: [ shouting to the camera, acting in Nation's Pride] Who wants to send a message to Germany? [ Nation's Pride is interrupted by Shosanna's movie]: I have a message for Germany.
[ Hitler and Goebbels watch in shock]: [ her image on the screen smirks] That you are all going to die.: [ yelling in German] Enough! Stop it!: [ yelling in German] Turn off the projector!: And I want you to look deep into the face of the Jew that is going to do it!: [ in German as the audience begins to shout in protest and anger] I don't. This movie was garbage.
A pretentious, self-indulgent mess. It consisted of interminable dialogue and a paper-thin plot stretching out over nearly three hours. I realize that this movie was not supposed to be a flat-out action film, but, come on people, the ad campaign for this film was incredibly misleading. And another thing: why do the opening credits have to be modeled after a film from the 60s or 70s? For what possible reason?
Russkoe slovo was the first Russian newspaper to send correspondents to Russia’s largest cities and to the capitals of many countries. Its extensive news coverage—it was called a “news factory”—and its criticism of tsarism helped make it one of the most widely distributed publications in Russia. In Jackie Brown and Death Proof it made sense, as each was an homage to styles past. But why do it for this one? Yes, Quentin, we know what a big fan of these eras you are.
And why the cartoon title over Hugo what's-his-name? Tarantino didn't do much else like this in the film. It just threw it off balance for me. What'd he make this stuff up as he went along? And is it true that Tarantino rushed production to get the movie done in time to compete at Cannes?
If so, that is the dumbest and most narcissistic thing I've ever heard. I'm tired of listening to this guy talk about how much god-given talent he has.
Make an entertaining movie, for pete's sake! Reign yourself in!
The movies you make shouldn't just be for you and Eli Roth and Robert Rodriguez to watch and pat each other on the backs after. It's getting old, people. Does ANYBODY agree with me, or does everyone still think this guy is God because he had Travolta and Jackson talking about cheeseburgers before killing somebody?
